Every year, I have the honor of thinking fondly of my Mother and everything she has done for me and my sisters. It is a rarity to have a Mom who cares so deeply and loves with all her heart like my Mom. She is very passionate and it shows in her actions. I know that my sisters and I tease her from time to time about how she is (and we love you for it mom) but honestly I would not have it any other way!
My Mom has ALWAYS been there for me. Thinking back.... my Mom was there for me for when I BECAME a mother myself. I hope she knows how significant that was for me! She laid that example for me and then in turn did not let me down when I needed her the most; when I was becoming a mother.

I watched a video that the church put out about Mother's which was so touching.... my brain began to wonder. I recalled a conversation I had with my cousin about our "awkward" stages as children. And truly my "awkward" stage was beyond that of an ugly duckling! After that conversation, I kept thinking why on earth would my Mom allow me to grew up looking like such a dork! Let me provide an example:

It got me thinking about the why of it all. And now that I am a mother, it kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. My Mom was trying to ALLOW me to be a child and be silly. Rather than being a girl who was popular, wearing make-up, having trendy clothes, "dating", she wanted to me stay young as long as possible and go through child trials and not "growing up too fast" problems. She allowed me to grow from an awkward girl into a young lady. How empowering is that? Then, I did not understand. I wanted to be that girl all the guys looked at and all the girls wanted to be. What my Mom saw was a world that was not so nice sometimes and could dish up more than a young girl could handle. Instead she let the natural tendencies of life take course and not let others dictate who and what I was or could be. It was up for ME to decide. I am proud to say that I am thankful for the awkward stage that my Mom allowed me to have. Now I cherish those moments when I was a kid and look back and smile. I am glad that I grew slower and was able to figure out things for myself. I am forever thankful to my Mom for giving me that gift (which there are many!). What a great lesson I hope I can pass along to Sarajane; "Be a kid as long as possible, it truly is a treasure."
