Over Spring Break, the kids and I talked a lot about Grandpa. Memories, stories, things he likes, his favorite foods, all of it. As a young child, Jas spent his time here in HI. Dad/Grandpa grew to love this island and made some cherished memories. We thought it only fitting to keep those memories alive in a place that he loved. While in our hike on “Digging Hill”, We found a spot on the trail where we weren’t in the way. We talked about our favorite memories with Grandpa, what reminds us of Grandpa, and what words describe him. We wrote them down on biodegradable/recyclable paper. We dug a small hole near the base of a banyon tree, crumpled up the paper and buried it. Now Grandpa and all the sweet things we talked about are now part of the island he loved so much. His memory will live on in the land;) Josh said a quick prayer afterward and off we went back down the trail.
